Hi Folks,

Nancy and I did some birding after dropping Ian off at a friend's house
this afternoon. By far the best birds of the outing were 2 ROSS'S GEESE
among 5000 Snow Geese (31 blues) at Great Oak Pond on the road to Great
Oak Landing off Handy Pt. Road west of Melitota. These included a white
morph immature and a rare blue morph adult. The latter was highly
distinctive because it had had largely white wings, a dark breast and
neck and only the face white. It also had the small round head, short
neck, and tiny triangular bill characteristic of Ross's Goose. Other
waterfowl there included 2 Canvasbacks, 10 Lesser Scaup, and 10 Ruddy
Ducks.

The fish hatchery pond on Fairlee Creek on Fish Hatchery Rd held 215
Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Canvasbacks, 3 American Wigeon, a Gadwall, and 24
Common Mergansers. There were 40 Tundra Swans to the west on Fairlee
Creek proper. We also relocated the GRAY CATBIRD near Buck Neck Marina
(in reeds in a ravine) on Buck Neck Road.

Good birding,

Walter Ellison & Nancy Martin
