I just checked the bare spot that formed near the cedar where I saw the
HERMIT THRUSH again earlier today. There were several WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS there and then I spotted a FOX SPARROW with them. I only recall one
previous Fox Sparrow in our yard and that was in the back along the
honeysuckle. So this is a new spot for one. Wow.

As for the Hermit, he is back after an absence when the warm-up melted most
of the lawn (actually just the snow on it). I didn't see him for at least a
week. I first spotted him at the water garden back in late January so he's
been around for about a month now. In April, I am going to offer him a free
ride in my truck out to Garrett County where I will help him pick out a nice
territory along one of my precious trout streams. Think he'll accept? It
would save him a lot of energy wasted on migration. Of course if he's from
Vermont he might not like Garrett much.
