Weekend at the Shore

   Traveling with the Carroll County Bird Club to the Eastern Shore we had
the following highlights:

White-fronted Goose - 1 immature at the Salisbury Landfill sand pit (2/18 &
2/21) appeared to have some white coming in on the front of the face.
*Blue Goose X Canada Goose* - 1 looking like an adult Blue Goose at West
Ocean City Pond (2/19)
Baldpate - *500* at Deal Island WMA (2/19)
*Blue-winged Teal* - 9 (3 male & 6 female) at Messick Road pond (2/20)
Green-winged Teal - hundreds at Truitts Landing & Fairmount WMA (2/20)
Redhead - 7 at Bayside (2/19)
*Harlequin Duck* - 1 male Ocean City Inlet (2/20) & surprisingly no eiders
Wild Turkey - 14 along US50 near Pittsville (2/18), flocks of 8 and 20 on
Public Landing Road (2/20)
Gannet - only 1 all weekend, Ocean City Inlet (2/20)
Double-crested Cormorant - 1 in Dames Quarter Creek (Somerset) & *60* on
Great Shoals Light (Wicomico) on 2/20
Black-crowned Night-Heron - 3 at the Knights of Columbus in Ocean City 2/19
& 2/21
*Peregrine* - 1 im making a pass at a lame Ring-bill in the parking lot of
White Marlin Mall in West Ocean City (2/19) and 1 on the hacking tower at
Deal Island WMA (2/20)
Black-bellied Plover - sand bars at Castaways (2/19)
Killdeer - only 2 seen this weekend on the sand bars at Castaways (2/19)
Oystercatcher - 3 at Castaways (2/19)
Greater Yellowlegs - a surprising *62* at Fairmount WMA (West Impoundment)
2/20
*Western Willet* - 1 seen at close range at Castaways (2/19)
Lesser Yellowlegs - 1 at Fairmount WMA (West) 2/20
Ruddy Turnstone - Ocean City Inlet (2/20)
Sanderling - Castaways (2/19)
Purple Sandpiper - a small flock at Ocean City Inlet (2/20)
Dunlin - hundreds off Castaways (2/19) and 7 at Fairmount WMA (West) on 2/20
*Long-billed Dowitcher* - 10 at Fairmount WMA (West) on 2/20
Snipe - 2 at Deal Island WMA (2/20)
Woodcock - 1 flying over Isle of Wight at dusk (2/18)
*Iceland Gull* - 1 first-winter at Salisbury Landfill sand pit (2/21)
*Lesser Black-back* - at least 5 (older than one year) at Salisbury Landfill
sand pit (2/21)
*Tree Swallow* - 1 at Rumbley & 3 at Deal Island WMA (2/20)
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 at Griffin Road feeder (2/19 & 2/21)
*Clay-colored Sparrow* - 1 at Ironshire on the east side of US113 at Mason
Road (2/21) on our second try

I probably omitted some other highlights but these are the ones I remember
seeing on another fun trip.
