I'm posting this message for Lorie Leavy. I saw the picture, it's a
beautiful bird!

I apologize for not posting sooner, but I wanted to obtain confirmation
of this identification before going public. Paul Pisano was kind enough
to do that for me.

On Feb. 27, Rick Prescott and I found an adult Iceland Gull in the bay
between Ocean City and the mainland, very close to the Route 50 bridge.
The gull was first noticed from the Ocean City side (4th St.) at low
tide, about 10:30 a.m. Later, we refound it on a sandbar in front of
Hooper's crab house. The bird appeared to be in or very close to
breeding plumage, as we could see no streaking on the head. If anyone
is interested, I'd be happy to share the rather poorly digiscoped
cellphone photo we took.
