HI all,
After a visitor left this afternoon, we set out for Poolesville, joining
three
other birders looking for the White-fronted Goose in Stevens Park. We had
already checked the fields along Rt. 107 on the way in to the town, we also
re-checked on way out but no geese seen. Obviously they move around a
bit.
Anyway, down to Riley's Lock where a passing kayaker spooked all the
waterfowl down near Seneca Breaks, and they did a lovely fly-by -- best
bird was a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER in with the Redheads (20-25
estimated), Lesser Scaup, American Wigeon and a few Gadwall. There
were also three Tundra Swans which took off to the south. The only
Grebes were about 10 Horned and 2-3 Pied-bill. That doesn't mean the
Red-necked wasn't around but we didn't see it despite a lot of scoping
from both Riley's and Violette's Locks.
I really prefer "double-dipping" when it refers to ice cream and not birds!
