Around noon today a brief outing turned up a few nice sightings.
With Osprey as a target species, a trip to the Dover Bridge over the
Choptank east of Easton fulfilled that need. Then a run to the north along
Kingston Road was rewarded by the presence of the large dispersed gull flock
reported a few days ago. In that flock there were at least 13 Laughing
Gulls, along with hundreds of Herring Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls. The more
unusual species reported earlier had either moved on or else just eluded me.
At the corner of Kingston Road and Black Dog Alley one could view a distant
flock of over 800 Tundra Swan. That site has been a regular feeding place
for the swan at this time of year for the past several years.
An early morning bonus this morning was a visit to my thistle
feeder by two Pine Siskins - so they are still around. A Red-breasted
Nuthatch was present a couple of days ago, and has been using my feeders
intermittently all year.
