At 6:30 this morning, while in the tower at BWI, I noticed a flock of birds
heading southeast over the field. With the aid of binoculars I was able
to identify and count the birds as a flock of 58 Snow Geese. The most
interesting thing about this flock was that it was made up of at least 25 Blue
Geese. This is a new species for me in my 15+ years of working in the tower at
BWI. Blue Goose is a new subspecies for me in Anne Arundel.
Also, on March 1st the Kestrels that have nested on the tower at this airport
for 4 out of the last 5 years returned to begin setting up for the season.
