Location: Oxbow Lake

Observation date: 3/10/11

Notes: Date 20110310, Start time: 5:30 p.m., Finish time 6:00 p.m.,
Temperature (F): 55°F, Wind: (1) Wind: SE at 14 mph, % ice cover: 0%, Humidity:
94%, Light rain. There was a lull in the rain, so I went to check out the water
level at the Oxbow. The water is overflowing the banks of the outlet channel and
the beaver dam on the peninsula (which is maintaining the water level of the
lake). The gage at Savage says the Little Patuxtent is at 8.9 feet at 5:15 p.m.
When it reaches 10 feet, the river will backflow into the Oxbow. This is what
has in the past busted the beaver dam; the difference this time is that it is
located at a different place than in previous years. It will be interesting to
see if the dam holds since there is already water flowing over it. This is the
URL to check out the Little Patuxent River water level: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/uv?cb_00060=on&cb_00065=on&format=gif_default&period=7&site_no=01594000

Number of species: 3

Canada Goose 20
Tundra Swan 70
Belted Kingfisher 1
