I don't live that far from the nice little golf course in Sligo Creek Park, but I've never birded there. Today I decided to check it out, with great results--my first brown creeper in ages! It was in the trees to the left of the clubhouse, on either side of the maintenance road leading up toward the cell phone tower. I've never had better looks; it mostly stayed on my side of the several trees I watched it working up, and was pretty vocal, so I could tell it was still around even when not in sight. I envy the people who could hear that soft little note, and say "I hear a brown creeper," just from the sound, but at least after this, I think I'm more likely to at least notice it and start looking.

I also saw a nice pileated out on the course, and a red tail circling above. There were 25 Canadas and 6 mallards in the pond, lots of robins all over, but nothing unusual until I got back to the little clubhouse. I'd been thinking all along that with all the pine trees, there might be a pine warbler, and I think I heard one, first from near the building, then unfortunately from further off. I'm not good enough at earbirding to be sure of it, but it did sound more musical than a chippie would. Maybe next time it'll stick around to be seen. Still, a good day.
