Greetings,

Last night my wife and I joined Woody Merkle at Mt. Pleasant, Howard County Conservancy, to search for American Woodcock.   Woody happened to be there Saturday evening and heard peents but did not see birds in flight.  He tried again Sunday in the wind and heard one peent.

We stood in the area just off the parking lot between the owl enclosure and the beehives and about 6:15 p.m. began hearing peents from at least four areas below and to the side.  We began hearing flights and eventually saw two birds in flight over us.

In hindsight we would have heard and seen more by continuing down the trail to the butterfly garden enclosure and looking back against the west sky.  The trail starts at the far end of the parking lot between the bank barn (which has the solar panels) and the paper recycling dumpsters and the butterfly garden enclosure is at the bottom of the hill.

The Conservancy grounds are open dawn to dusk.  Maps and information can be found on the Howard County Bird Club site at

http://www.howardbirds.org/birdinghowardcounty/MtPleasant/mount_pleasant_overview.htm

and the Conservancy web site at http://www.hcconservancy.org

This is a new bird for the Mt Pleasant list.
