After looking at Little Gulls at Lapidum, I went on down to Havre de
Grace to see what was there. While looking over the river at the Havre
de Grace Marina at the terminus of the Promenade, I noticed an all white
bird bathing with a Ring-billed Gull. At first I thought it was probably
a white domestic duck but it looked more like a gull, so I pulled out my
scope and saw that it was a gull. From the relative size compared to the
Ring-billed Gulls, I suspected that it was an Iceland Gull. By this time
it was perched on the rocks at the entrance to a small cove between the
decoy museum and the lighthouse. So, I walked around the promenade to
within about 50 feet of the gull. From its two-toned bill and size, I
could see that it was a second winter Iceland Gull. After a couple of
minutes, the gull flew back towards the parking lot where I lost him. I
walked back to my car and drove down to the far end of the parking lot
where I relocated the gull on top of some tall pilings where they are
rebuilding the boat launch. The gull was still there when I left at 3:10 PM.
Other birds present were a male Bufflehead, a male Canvasback, a small
flock of Lesser Scaup, and lots of coots. There are at least 7 nest in
the herony on the island there.

The eagle looked down on the river below
And he wrapped his wings round him and he fell like a stone
And the big salmon fought but the talons held true
And he shuddered as the world turned from silver to blue
