Hi Everybody: I spent yesterday (3/20) initially in Harford County and most of the day in Cecil County. I attempted to find the Little Gull late in the morning and then late in the afternoon but did not spend more than 45 minutes searching either time. I payed the penalty of not spending a lot of my day there to see the Little Gull but I wanted to bird some other areas as well, primarily looking for waterfowl on the move .I stopped at the following places:

SWAN HARBOR FARM PARK - most of my time here was spent walking around the wetland -

Wood Duck 5
Green-winged Teal 24
Northern Shoveler 5
Black Duck 2
American Coot 6
Other birds of note: N. Harrier (1) Wilson's Snipe (3), Savannah (4) and Swamp Sparrows (1) and Horned Larks (2).

CECIL COUNTY
Bethel Managed Hunt Area (MHA):

Green-winged Teal 4
Northern Shoveler 4
Gadwall 16
Lesser Scaup 4
Ring-necked Duck 5
Ruddy Duck 3
Horned Grebe 2 (thanks Jim Moore for posting about these)

Courthouse Point MHA:

As I started walking in towards the ponds I heard 2 Barred Owls calling back and forth for about five minutes around 1:30 PM in the afternoon. Waterfowl in the pond included:

Wood Duck 10
Green-winged Teal 12
Northern Shoveler 15
Ring-necked Duck 45
Lesser Scaup 9
Bufflehead 7
Ruddy Duck 4
Pid-billed Grebe 1

Elk Forest MHA

As I was driving down Elk Forest Road towards the MHA I stopped by the road near the intersection of McKeown Road and counted 85 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. There was no waterfowl at the Elk Forest MHA but I did see 2 Golden-crowned Kinglets and 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch.

Despite missing the Little Gull it was a great day of birding.

All of the Cecil County MHA's can be entered by permit only. The permit is free. Please contact me off line if you are interested in the procedure to obtain the permit.
