I had a few hours free this afternoon and decided to spent some time scanning
the bay for migrating waterfowl and checking a few ponds around Kent County.
Highlights from an hour and fifteen minute bay watch from Easter Neck NWR
included:
White-winged Scoter- 2 (distant but after 1/2 hr they flapped their wings and
the white became visible)
Surf Scoter- 8
Dark Winged Scoter- 3 (distant fly-bys)
Common Loon- 1
Red-throated Loon- 1 (fly-by)
Horned Grebe- 1 (almost in full breeding plumage)
Next stop was Chesapeake Farms. The main pool open to the public had many ducks
(many more than the last time I was there). While counting the numerous Northern
Shovelers I came across the Common Teal (presumable the same individual found a
week or so ago by a Delaware bird group) and quickly took several

After taking the photos and while on the phone studying the bird I watched it
get up and leave with two other teal, they did not return while I was there.
Notes and photos will be entered into eBird and submitted to MD/DC RC.
Other ducks present at Chesapeake Farms:
American Green-winged Teal- 11
Northern Shoveler- 101
Wood Duck- 5
Gadwall- 2
Ruddy Duck- 18
Greater Scaup- 14
Ring-neck Duck- 1
