Took my weekly site survey count this morning, walking the entire
length of Hunting Quarter Rd. This is an E-bird project, but I am not sure
what they are doing with the data other than creating a competitive bird
watching game of I saw more birds in my patch than you did. I have been
doing it for a year now and it is a good way to collect seasonal data in a
systematic way. Afterwards I walked back through the flooded fields.
Highlights were 2 large(100+) of Canada Geese flying high to the
north, 14 Gadwall, 10 Northern Pintail, 94 Green-winged Teal, seasonal high
count of 128 Ring-necked Ducks, a male Redhead, 5 Pied-billed Grebes ( I
think they may try to nest here again this year), a large flock (1500) of
Red-winged Blackbirds in the flooded fields and a singing Fox Sparrow.
After being absent all winter I had 3 House Finches flying over.
They were probably migrants.
