Hi Everybody:

I took a "4-hour break" this AM and chased some of the Longtailed Ducks(LTDU) reported yesterday. After I successfully saw the LTDU at Kershner's Pond (also there were 2 Northern Shovelers and 1 Pied-billed Grebe) I had no luck at any of the locations in Wash. Co. I ran into Joe Hanfman at Boonesboro Waste Water Treatment Plant (no LTDU). 3 N. Shovelers and 1 Horned Grebe were there. Joe had mentioned that he had already checked the Fort Ritchie location and did not see the LTDU there. I did a quick check of the lake at Greenbrier ST. Pk: There were 6 Ruddy Ducks, 3 Pied-billed Grebes and 3 Horned Grebes and that was it. My last stop before heading back to work was at Williamsport where Kathy Calvert had 23 LTDU's yesterday. There was no sign of any waterfowl on the Potomac River. There were several Roughwinged Swallows mixed in with the Tree Swallows.

I thought it was interesting that the Kershner Pond LTDU stuck around for another day while all of the Wash. County birds moved on.

Thanks to everybody for reporting these yesterday. Let's hope that Sunday's weather brings another movement of birds through the area.
