Sounds like a Sharpie or a Cooper's. And I have seen an accipiter dive
into a bush after a bird.

At dusk one day, I had a large winged shape hanging from the bottom of
my tree nut feeder. After putting on my spectacles, I saw it was an
accipiter hanging on to the leg of the Downy Woodpecker that was inside
the protective cage of the feeder. I went out to defend "my" Downy.

The accipiter flew off, the Downy dove into the bushes, the accipiter
wheeled about and dove into the same bush. I never heard any further
cries from the Downy or found any feather mess, so I assume the Downy
got away. Needless to say, in the bad light of dusk & sans binoculars,
I never made a definitive ID of the accipiter.

He was facing the platform bird feeder (just off to his left on the porch) and there was a large bush to his left and just behind and below him, outside the window. He looked up and saw something that he first thought was a dove flying into the feeder. It breezed by him and dove into the bushes - but not all the way in.

He called to me, and I saw from across the room a bird bouncing in the bush, then it flew away. To me, the bird looked like it was the size of a dove or possibly blue jay - not a big bird at all.

I know there is a sharpie that hangs out here, but it's a bigger bird. I suppose this could have been a really small male, but it didn't look like a sharpie to me.
