My lunchtime walk around Schoolhouse Pond was highlighted by a Rusty Blackbird and two Blue-winged Teal. The Rusty Blackbird was an adult male giving its best squeaky door imitation. It was with several Red-winged Blackbirds near the sharp bend in the boardwalk. Also, two Blue-winged Teal joined the seven or so Green-winged Teal that have spent the last several weeks at the pond. I did not see the Blue-winged Teal before work, but they were present at lunchtime and consisted of a male and female. Other waterfowl present included 10 Wood Ducks and 3 Northern Shovelers, as well as the usual Mallards and a small number of Canada Geese. This morning, there was a Great Egret along the backside of the pond, but that bird had left by noon. Several days ago, nine Double-crested Cormorants dropped onto the pond, and four remain today. And, among the dozen or so Tree Swallows was one Northern Rough-winged Swallow.
