Paul wrote me at work yesterday:

"4 yellow-crowned night herons on Dead Run. All by the side of the stream . . . One by the dam by Bullwinkle's Tavern, and the other three just downstream from Fred's Garage. None on trees, nor by 11 nests which I can see in 4 trees."

These Baltimore County herons seem to typically arrive a little later than some posted in Maryland. Paul had checked on them as recently as Monday, and didn't find any (nor had the folks at Fred's Garage!)

While I'm writing, will mention we became aware of 3 Fox Sparrows in our Baltimore City yard on March 19, and are still seeing two. This is unusual for us. We might see one a year for a much briefer stay (definately less than a week). They may like the lack of competititon, this year. We only have a suet & niger feeder full since the weather got a little warmer, and two of them are often under the niger feeder, getting the seed dropped by the Goldfinch.
