Hi all,

I birded along the Potomac (from the Virginia side) and the Patuxent Rivers
this morning. Highlights along the Potomac were a RED-NECKED GREBE very
near the Piscataway Creek boardwalk (as viewed from the general vicinity of
Fort Hunt) and good numbers of BONAPARTE'S GULLs at all stops- at one point,
a flock of 34 kettled, and headed off more or less to the Northwest. There
were also 4 HORNED GREBES in various states of plumage, 3 COMMON LOONs, one
in nearly full alternate plumage, and some sizeable groups of RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERs. The Patuxent was a bit slower- about the best was Eagle
Harbor, where there were 5 ROYAL TERNs among the gull flock concentrated
around a fisherman that was cleaning fish and tossing the scraps into the
water.

Good Birding!
