Hi all,

I spent this (4 April) morning-afternoon birding around St. Mary's County.
Some highlights from the morning at Point Lookout SP were 3 PURPLE
SANDPIPERS heading south around the point at about 7 am, a RED-NECKED GREBE
just east of the parking lot for the picnic area, a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER
in the small patch of woods near the point, 2 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 1 CASPIAN
TERN, 3 ROYAL TERNs, and a nice AMERICAN KESTREL flight. Heading north to
Long Neck Road, I did a bit of a hawkwatch, the flight of AMERICAN KESTRELs
was quite impressive, at one point there were 5 birds perched on the same
wire, with 4 more heading north overhead with a total tally of 23 birds in
about an hour, I also saw one MERLIN, and a few NORTHERN HARRIERs. There
were also small groups of shorebirds heading north- 9 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and 1 shorebird sp. The water at
the end of the road had nice dabbler diversity with 8 GADWALL, 9 AMERICAN
WIGEON, and 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER. Beauvue ponds held a pair of REDHEAD among
the commoner species.

Good Birding!
