On my bike commute over Chain Bridge this morning I stopped for a very pleasant few minutes in order to watch two osprey fishing (successfully) on both sides of the bridge.  It's thrilling to watch them dive into the water - and a bit worrisome when one dives immediately next to the river bank where it looks really shallow.  Makes me wonder if the shad are starting their annual run.  Does anyone know?
