Hi Everyone,

I had a nice full day (9 April 2011) birding from Queen Anne's County up and around the top of the bay to Harford County. Wanted to pass the word about a couple highlights:

Northern Gannet--2 adults sitting on the water well offshore from Ingleside at Eastern Neck NWR (Kent Co); viewing conditions were excellent, and I even managed to get a few digiscopes. Thanks to Walter and Nancy for the post about the Red-throated Loons at this location--after reading that I decided to check out the loons (I counted 24 today and 125 Surf Scoters), and of course the loon scan is what generated the gannet sightings.

Caspian Terns--clearly on the move on the east side of the bay. I counted 6 at the Chestertown WWTP (Kent Co) and 34 on the Sassafrass River on the border between Kent and Cecil Counties. Thirty of those birds were standing on a roof on the Kent Co side near the bridge. Another 4 were flying along the Cecil Co side of the river.

The weather was nicer than I'd anticipated today (at least where I was)--great day to be out!

Have fun,
