Nothing stupendous, but had a good day birding Washington County today
(Sunday). Waterbirds were scarce (the Long-tailed Duck was not evident
at Edgemont Reservoir, though John Dennehy was), but some good land birds:

-- Big Pool/Ft Frederick SP: PINE SISKIN, PURPLE FINCH (both Siskin and
Finch feeding with big flock of goldfinches), 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL
-- C&O Canal -- Dargan's Bend: 4 singing YELLOW THROATED WARBLERS & 2
LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES
-- fields next to Mt. Briar Wetlands Preserve: AMERICAN PIPIT, SAVANNAH
SPARROW (first eBird County record for the year), PINE WARBLER (feeding
next to the Pipits in an open field!!!)
-- Acton road near Big Pool: male NORTHERN HARRIER (uncommon in county I
believe)

In Frederick County I tried to follow Andy Wilson's directions to the
Red-necked Grebe at Brunswick Riverside Park (C&O Canal). I believe I
was successful but did not find the grebe or any terns. I did find five
RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and one Common Merganser (all females) as well
as a breeding plumage COMMON LOON. May also have seen a distant Goldeneye.

Good birding!
