Hi Everyone,

I spent the morning of Saturday, 4/9 birding Point Lookout and vicinity with Jim Stasz, Matt Hafner, John Hubbell, and Mikey and Jo Anna Lutmerding. The best birds of the morning were a GLOSSY IBIS and an EASTERN WILLET near the point. Mikey made the excellent spot in the distance over the Potomac and the bird ultimately flew right past us on the point (photos). The EASTERN WILLET flushed from the pond near the point, vocalizing and permitting diagnostic photos.

Other birds of interest were one each of CATTLE EGRET, SNOWY EGRET, GREEN HERON, PEREGRINE FALCON, WHITE-EYED VIREO, MARSH WREN, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH. There were good numbers of Surf Scoter, both loons, Horned Grebe, Brown Pelican, Northern Gannet, and Bonaparte's Gull. Full eBird lists submitted.

Long Neck Road held two drake NORTHERN SHOVELERs and a pair of GREEN-WINGED TEAL, both scarce in the county.

During my visit, Beauvue Ponds held 8 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, as well as Gadwall (4), American Wigeon (4), and a concentration of AMERICAN KESTRELs (7). I also heard a WILD TURKEY call in the distance from Breton Beach Road. During a separate visit by Hafner et al, there was a continuing female REDHEAD, as well as Northern Gannets (2; cool location) and Bonaparte's Gulls (~50) at Abell's Wharf Road.

I had three NORTHERN GANNETs close to the Route 4 bridge at Solomons in the afternoon on 4/8.

Good birding,

Bill
