Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from April 6, 2011
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, April
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
Note the presence of Northern Gannet, Snowy Egret, American Coot,
Great Egret, Turkey Vulture, Purple Martin and Swamp Sparrow. Double-crested
Cormorants are also here, in large numbers. Nests with eggs were found for
Canada Goose, Mallard, Killdeer, and Tree Swallow. An Eagle nest shows
presence of large young.
Weather: Clear early am, Partly Cloudy thereafter
