At Mouth of Monocacy (Frederick side), we found a nice flock of migrants that included PINE (1), WORM-EATING (1), NORTHERN PARULA (2), YELLOW PALM (1), PROTHOTONARY (1), and MYRTLE (4) WARBLERs, as well as BLUE-HEADED VIREO and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. We noted our first Zebra Swallowtail of the year.

Not sure how important this is, but last i knew, the Monocacy river (both shores + a little more) at its mouth was ENTIRELY within Frederick County. I guess it's possible that erosion has carried the river edge at the mouth over to the border with MONT CO, but at the aqueduct that would not be the case.

Wood ducks
I mentioned them before at the small farm pond just east of Catholic Church Rd just south of the intersection with Gapland Road. Over the last month + i have seen as many as 6 pair, but more commonly have found 4 pair at what seems an unlikely site for them. There is a small creek nearby, so perhaps this is only a feeding location. They are rather shy and move to the far side of the pond when i have stopped to observe.

My hummingbird feeders vigil through these long months of freezing nights and short days, should by now have been rewarded with a visit by one of the first migrants to visit the state - at least that was my expectation, but its lonely vigil continues unabated - OH WOE OH WOE...!!!
