Our first-of-year Gray Catbird showed up in our small backyard this morning.  But the real topper was a wonderful new neighborhood bird.  

We were driving back from buying groceries this morning and turned onto McKinley Street by Suburban Hospital here in Bethesda (close by the National Institutes of Health).  Right across the street from the Hospital we were startled to see two CHICKENS pecking around in the front yard of a house used as offices—Rhode Island Reds, I think.  Will wonders never cease!!  We have never heard chickens in our neighborhood, so their origin is a mystery.
