Yesterday Woody Martin banded the two Great Horned Owlets at the Little Patuxtent Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve. Several people captured photos of a once-in-a-lifetime event for some of us. If you've never seen an owlet at very close range, Dave Brenneman has posted a gallery of pictures here:

Select Great Horned Owl Chick Banding

In 2010, Red-shouldered Hawks built the nest and Woody banded 2 of the 3 Red-shouldered Hawk chicks.
In 2011, the Great Horned Owls took over the nest and are raising 2 owlets
In 2012 - we have Woody on speed dial and can't wait to see who uses the nest

Thanks again to Woody and everyone who participated - it was a real hoot!
