For several years, the Cecil Bird Club has done a field trip in Delaware to
support the DOS Bird-a-thon. This year, the Bird-a-thon dates are May 7-15.

I would like to lead a half-day trip to Ft. DuPont this year, which has flat
trails and a variety of habitat. I can do this on Sunday May 8, but many
people may not be able to go because it's Mother's Day. Other options are a
weekday trip or waiting until May 15, depending on weather forecasts.

If you would like to participate, please let me know by the end of this week
so we can make definite plans. If you can't go on the walk but would like to
donate a per-species amount or a flat amount to the cause, please let me
know that, too. All funds raised by this effort go toward the purchase and
maintenance of shorebird/horseshoe crab habitat.

Also, in mid-May, we would like to "bird blitz" Elk Forest and Turkey Point.
These are walks aimed at locating a few specific species-mostly Wood
Thrushes and warblers. These are fairly easy walks, just 1-2 hours long,
done with a handheld GPS (provided by MD Audubon) to mark each spot where
the targets were seen or heard. It's ideal to have two people do this so one
can observe and one can record. The data we produce may help Elk Neck become
an Important Bird Area (IBA), so this is another important cause.

If you would like to do this, please let me know. We did a few of these last
year and they were fun, but we waited too long to get good warbler numbers,
which is why our focus is on mid-May.

THANKS!!

Pat
