Tried a different trail today off of Mt Carmel Rd and wound up down along
the Gunpowder again. Nice new birds tend to keep us all in a giddy mood this
time of year. My giddy treats were:

YELLOW-THROATED VIREO - heard and seen. Also had a SCARLET TANAGER in the
next tree over. I think I've mentioned that these two birds sing at
practically the same frequency. The Vireo just sings a shorter song. When
you hear them together like this the similarity is striking.
PRAIRIE WARBLER - along a power line cut. Ever seen a power line cut without
one? Maybe that's why we have electricity - to create power line cuts for
Prairie Warblers.
OVENBIRDS - lots of them. Forgot to mention them yesterday. Out of the
thousands I heard, I found 2 yesterday and 2 more today. That's not a bad
percentage.
WOOD THRUSH - these always make me giddy.

Also a lot of the other birds I've already seen this year. Including the
BALTIMORE ORIOLE waiting for me in a tree next to my house. And the
RUBY-THROATED HUMMER at the feeder right now. And by the way, the COMMON
LOON is still shacked up in the lake across the road. I'll keep you posted
on how long he stays.
