Hi Everybody,

The date of the Kent County May Bird Count is fast approaching. At
present we know of only one team ready to cover as much of the whole
county as feasible so there's plenty of territory to hand out to folks
who would like to count birds here in about two-weeks (14 May). The
count is similar procedurally to a Christmas Bird Count (CBC). We will
attempt to locate and keep track of the numbers of all bird species we
can find on the fourteenth. It's preferable to be in the field all day,
but partial days are okay. May counters also need to keep track of their
hours on foot and in the car and their miles for both walking and
driving. The range of productive bird habitats in Kent County is broad
including open farmland, small freshwater ponds, the deciduous and mixed
woods to the east around Millington and Golts and down the necks, the
loblolly pine-oak woods along the Chester, and Bay, river, and marsh.
Last year it was windy and the count tallied 123 bird species and 5800
individual birds despite the difficult conditions. Please contact us at
the number listed below or via e-mail if you would like to take on a
territory or bird with us on the fourteenth.

Good Birding,

Observing Nature is like unwrapping a big pile of presents every time
you take a walk.
