I circumnavigated the lake this AM. For those of you, like me, who are
confused by big words, that means I walked all the way around it.
No sign of the Loon that was around last week. In fact the only bird on the
lake was something of a rarity - a COOT. I'm sure they have been on it
before but I can't recall the last time.
During my journey I found some nice new birds - YELLOW WARBLER, WHITE-EYED
VIREO and A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER. New for this neighborhood this
year. We also heard a NORTHERN PARULA this AM during breakfast. Had another
one over along the creek. Yesterday it was a MAGNOLIA WARBLER.

The neighborhood is ringing with the song of ORIOLES (both). I caught a view
of a couple of them. Also we have our own bunch of WARBLING VIREOS. Saw
them, too. FIELD SPARROWS, CHIPPING SPARROWS and BLUEBIRDS are all over the
place. A TREE SWALLOW was perched down at the lake. Last week they checked
out the box in our yard. And, of course, we now have competing HUMMINGBIRDS
at our feeder. That means I have to look both ways before I go out the back
door. Otherwise I could become inadvertently impaled as an innocent
bystander. And the wife spent yesterday planting more Hummer-friendly stuff.
You know, the kind that have big red flowers on them. We get a kick out of
watching them feed on something other than the sugar water we mix up for
them.
