Hi Everyone,

We don't have any field puddles in Wicomico County right now--we're behind on our rain for this time of year, and things are pretty dry. But as a result, water in the Rt 50 Borrow Pit has receded, leaving a few shallow, mud-rimmed puddles. I stopped at the borrow pit briefly this afternoon (10 May 2011) and had 6 species of shorebirds:

Semipalmated Plover--10
Lesser Yellowlegs--3
Solitary Sandpiper--2
Greater Yellowlegs--1
Semipalmated Sandpiper--2
Least Sandpiper--29

The 2 small ponds at The Plantations (west of Salisbury, opposite Wright's Market, accessed from Old Railroad Rd off of Rt 50) had 3 shorebird species:

Spotted Sandpiper--1
Semipalmated Sandpiper--2
Least Sandpiper--3

Have fun,

Ron Gutberlet
