   Yesterday I spent most of the day looking for marsh birds and grassland
birds with the highlight being the arrival of Willow Flycatcher at 3
locations. Today was back to the forest with the highlight being the very
rare Prothonotary Warbler.

May 11, 2011 species of note:
Canada Goose  pair with seven downy young parading down Johnsville Rd near
home
Kestrel  1 Bowers Rd
VIRGINIA RAIL  1 heard only Union Mills Wetland on Brown Rd, responded to
tapes of both King Rail & Virginia Rail
Spotted Sandpiper  2 Starners Dam
Solitary Sandpiper  16 at same location as rail
Lesser Yellowlegs  6 at same location as rail
Least Sandpiper  4 at same location as rail
Red-headed Woodpecker  1 Flickinger Road Swamp, 1 heard Babylon Rd X Silver
Run, 1 heard Baumgardner Rd X Piney Creek, 1 heard Sixes Bridge Rd X
Keysville Rd
Willow Flycatcher  1 heard singing Sawmill Rd X Big Pipe Creek, 1 heard
singing Union Mills Wetland on Brown Rd, 1 seen & heard singing Hapes Mill
Rd.
Raven  1 heard only Study Rd
Horned Lark  2 Sixes Bridge Rd just east of Keysville Rd, 1 heard Jasontown
Rd, 1 heard Roops Mill Rd
Purple Martin  active colony on Bowers Rd near Harney
Pipit  ~35 Sixes Bridge Rd just east of Keysville Rd, my second latest
record
Vesper Sparrow  1 Hapes Mill Rd
Savannah Sparrow  2 Sixes Bridge Rd just east of Keysville Rd, probably a
pair on territory
Grasshopper Sparrow  1 Study Rd, 2 heard on Keysville Rd near Baumgardner
Rd, 2 on Keysville-Bruceville Rd, 1 heard on Sixes Bridge Rd, 2 heard on
Roops Mill Rd
White-crowned Sparrow  2 adults Study Rd
Bobolink  heard singing on territory on Keysville-Bruceville Rd with 1 male
seen. The house across the street is for sale if you are interested in
watching breeding Bobolinks from your front window. Also heard on Sixes
Bridg Rd.
Orchard Oriole  1 immature male singing on Hapes Mill Rd

In the evening I checked Liberty Lake off Oakland Road:
Canada Goose  26, including a pair with four downy young
Mallard  4
Common Loon  1 immature
DC Cormorant  24 including one with something wrapped around its lower
mandible and neck holding its mouth open and head downward at all times
Yellow-throated Warbler  1 heard only

5/12/11  Today at Liberty Watershed off Bollinger Mill Road mostly breeding
birds, not many migrants:
