Hi all,

Yesterday myself and Cecily Nabors who make up the ANS Birdathon birding team
the "May-Day Birders" took off at 7:30am to bird selected areas within the county. Our total for the day was 90 species.  Warblers were a bit slow, or we were in places they weren't.  Later in the day, at Sycamore Landing Road Cecily heard a "cooo-cooo-cooo-cooo' in the trees S/W of 1st parking lot.  It was a FOY Yellow-billed Cuckoo for both of us!

Another highlight was hearing a COMMON NIGHTHAWK flying over Reilly's Lock, and  then later at Hughes Hollow (8:25pm) seeing one hawking for insects.
Due to car problems, we ended up staying later at Hughes Hollow, but it was worth seeing
4 BLACK CROWNED NIGHT HERONS flying over at dusk.
No Purple Gallinule show.  But, the COMMON COOT was seen nicely. More Great Egrets were seen flying over at dusk.

Lake Needwood despite it's ugliness during the dredging operation seemed to be the place
for shorebirds.  A flock of 25-39 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS  were flying around the increasing mudflats.  A LEAST SANDPIPER was on the shore.  We encounted both species of Yellowlegs, and  2 Great Egrets.  Barn Swallows are nesting in the pump and a
PURPLE MARTIN was again seen and heard.
A couple of Killdeer were seen as well.
Hawk number were low, but we got the Red-tailed, Red-shouldered and Cooper's.
The Prothonotary Warbler at Reily's Lk sang, sang, sang, but didn't show show show show. Lots of Wood Duck hens with babies in tow on the canal.
The Barred Owls calling after dusk at Hughes Hollow ended our day nicely.
