Top birds this week are: MISSISSIPPI KITE in MD and VA and PURPLE GALLINULE
in MD

Other birds of interest include NORTHERN BOBWHITE, ANHINGA, LEAST BITTERN,
COMMON MOORHEN, PIPING PLOVER, sandpipers, BLACK SKIMMER, CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOW,
WHIP-POOR-WILL, flycatchers, CEDAR WAXWING, warblers, sparrows, DICKCISSEL
and RED CROSSBILL.

On May 10, a MISSISSIPPI KITE flew over Fort Smallwood SP, Anne Arundel Co,
MD. An immature MISSISSIPPI KITE flew near the junction of Duvall and Mt.
Calvert Roads, Prince George's Co, MD on May 15. On May 16, an adult
MISSISSIPPI KITE was observed from the Fort Smallwood SP Hawk watch plus a
MISSISSIPPI KITE glided over a house in Windsor Mill, Baltimore Co, MD for
the third year in a row and an adult MISSISSIPPI KITE was at the College
Creek Hawk watch near Williamsburg, VA.

The PURPLE GALLINULE seen at Hughes Hollow, Montgomery Co, MD last week, was
heard again on May 15.

A NORTHERN BOBWHITE was taking a morning constitutional in Springfield, VA
on May 15 while another was calling at St. Mary's College, St. Mary's Co, MD
on May 14 and 15. Another urban NORTHERN BOBWHITE was in a yard in suburban
Lynchburg, VA on May 15. A NORTHERN BOBWHITE photograph, taken in a backyard
in Clear Spring, Washington Co, MD on May 16 made it onto Facebook.

An ANHINGA was spotted circling over the Newport News City Park, VA on May
10. Three ANHINGAS flew over Montgomery Park, Baltimore City, MD on May 11.

A LEAST BITTERN continued to be seen at Patterson Park, Baltimore, MD with a
sighting on May 13. Another LEAST BITTERN was at Occoquan Bay NWR, Prince
William Co, VA on May 14 and 15.

Two COMMON MOORHENS were at Hughes Hollow, Montgomery Co, MD, seen on May 12
down to just one on May 13. Another COMMON MOORHEN was at the King Family
vineyard, Crozet, Albemarle Co, VA on May 15.

Two PIPING PLOVERS were at the Ocean City Inlet, Worcester Co, MD on May 14.

Two BLACK-NECKED STILTS were found at Pickering Creek Audubon Center, Talbot
Co, MD on May 10.

A STILT SANDPIPER was one of six shorebirds seen at the Swan Creek Dredge
Facility, Anne Arundel Co, MD on May 15. A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was swimming
in the north pool at Ted Harvey Conservation Area, Kent Co, DE on May 12. A
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was at Bombay Hook NWR, DE in Bear Swamp Pool on May
15.

Thirty-nine BLACK SKIMMERS were on Skimmer Island, Worcester Co, MD on May
12.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE flew past the College Creek Hawk watch, near
Williamsburg, VA on May 15.

CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOWS were singing at Union Springs, Rockingham Co, VA on May
10 and 12. Two WHIP-POOR-WILLS were calling at Idylwild WMA, Caroline Co, MD
on May 12.

An ALDER FLYCATCHER was advertising "free beers" at Blairs Valley Lake,
Washington Co, MD on May 14. Another ALDER FLYCATCHER was at Bles Park,
Loudoun Co, VA, also on May 14. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was on a dead snag
at James River Park, Richmond, VA on May 14.
Another OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was in Green Ridge SF, Allegany Co, MD on May
15.

More than 150 CEDAR WAXWINGS invaded Brookside Gardens, Montgomery Co, MD on
May 11. Hundreds of CEDAR WAXWINGS were on the C&O Canal stretching from
Pennyfield Lock to above Violette's Lock, Montgomery Co, MD on May 15.

Warbler migration is slowing down, but reports of BLUE-WINGED,
GOLDEN-WINGED, TENNESSEE, NASHVILLE, CHESTNUT-SIDED, MAGNOLIA, CAPE MAY,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACKBURNIAN, BAY-BREASTED, BLACKPOLL, WILSON'S and
CANADA WARBLERS came from sites in the region. Warbler hot spots continue to
include Rock Creek Park with 18 warblers on May 10 and 15 warblers on May
12;  A yard near Upper Watts Branch Park, Montgomery Co, MD with 17 warblers
on May 10; Morgan Run NEA, Carroll Co, MD with 16 warblers on May 10; Ft.
Totten and Rock Creek Cemetery, DC with 14 warblers on May 13; Susquehanna
SP, Harford Co, MD with 19 warblers on May 13; Little Bennett Regional Park,
Montgomery Co, MD with 16 warblers on May 15; Morgan Run, Carroll Co, MD
with 22 warblers on May 16. An immature PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, rare for
Carroll Co, was seen at Liberty Watershed off Bollinger Mill Road on May 12.
A MOURNING WARBLER was seen on a trail at Mint Springs Park, Albemarle Co,
VA on May 13. A MOURNING WARBLER was at Morgan Run, Carroll Co, MD plus a
MOURNING WARBLER was at Union Springs, Rockingham Co, VA both on May 16.

Two SALTMARSH SPARROWS were at Sandy Point SP, Anne Arundel Co, MD on May
15. A LINCOLN'S SPARROW made an unexpected appearance at the Flint Hill
School, Fairfax Co, VA and another LINCOLN'S SPARROW was at Schooley Mill
Park, Howard Co, MD, both on May 11. 

The DICKCISSEL on Egypt Road, Dorchester Co, MD, originally found on May 7
was relocated on May 12. Three DICKCISSELS were in Leedstown, Westmoreland
Co, VA at the intersection of Resolutions and Layton Landing Roads on May
14. Two DICKCISSELS were at Beauvue Ponds, St.
Mary's Co, MD on May 15.

Two RED CROSSBILLS were seen at the top of Shenandoah Mt., Rockingham Co, VA
on May 10.
