Jay Sheppard and I were looking for a singing Blue-headed Vireo, when we spotted a Pileated Woodpecker being very still and very quiet. She was in the area where I had observed them mating earlier this spring. We watched her fly to her hole and feed 2 babies and we had excellent looks at the babies.

Turtles are starting to leave the lake to lay eggs. Be careful as you drive on Oxbow Place across from the preserve as they are known to cross the road and lay eggs in the mulch piles we have around our common area trees in Russett - even Snapping Turtles.
