Jeff C. and I went to Worcester County this morning.
Our first stop was Truitts Landing. We watched a raccoon stalk a King Rail.
The rail got away. A secondd King Rail was calling very close to us but
remaained hidden. A couple of Virginia Rails called and we saw one of them.
Also present were several Seaside Sparrows and a couple of
Saltmarsh Sparrows. A Grasshopper Sparrow was near the entrance before the
dirt road.
Our next stop was Castaways (Eagle's Nest). Remember to check-in with the
friendly staff if you bird here. Seen from the pier were 2 Brant , 3 Piping
Plovers, and 12 Short-billed Dowitchers.
At Ocean City--Skimmer Island there were 3 Red Knots and 13 Black Skimmers.
There were 4 Wilson's Storm-Petrels at the inlet near the green bouy.
Visability was poor past the bouy.
On our way home we stopped at New Bridge Rd Boat Ramp in Vienna, Dorchester
County. Here we got 3 or 4 Prothonotary Warblers. About a mile east of the
boat ramp, in the wooded area, we found a Red-eyed Vireo.
