This is the Voice of the Naturalist, a service of the Audubon Naturalist
Society. This report was completed Tuesday, June 14, at 8 AM. 

Birds of interest include BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK*, WILSON'S
STORM-PETREL, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, ANHINGA, LEAST BITTERN, MISSISSIPPI
KITE, BLACK-NECKED STILT, SHORT-EARED OWL, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER,
SWAINSON'S WARBLER, VESPER SPARROW, and DICKCISSEL.

Two of the BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCKS in the pond at Patterson Park,
Baltimore, MD, were seen on Jun 9.

Four WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were spotted from the Ocean City Inlet,
Worcester Co, MD on Jun 10.

An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN continues along Key Wallace DR, Blackwater NWR,
Dorchester Co, MD.

An ANHINGA was found flying through a bald cypress swamp in Sussex Co, VA on
Jun 11.

A LEAST BITTERN was heard near the first viewing platform on the boardwalk
at Dyke Marsh, Fairfax Co, VA on Jun 12.

The MISSISSIPPI KITE making occasional appearances at Hughes Hollow,
Montgomery Co, MD was seen on Jun 7. A MISSISSIPPI KITE hunted near the
intersection of MD routes 175 and 108 in Howard Co on Jun 10. 

Two BLACK-NECKED STILTS were at Swan Creek dredge containment facility, Anne
Arundel Co, MD throughout the week.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen over a marsh on Poplar Island, Talbot Co, MD on
Jun 7.

A late BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER was singing at the Flint Hill School,
Oakton, Fairfax Co, VA on Jun 9. Five SWAINSON'S WARBLERS were along
Washington Ditch in Great Dismal Swamp NWR, Suffolk, VA on Jun 7.

Two VESPER SPARROWS were found on Shoemaker Rd and another was at the
intersection of Shoemaker and Bollinger School Rd, Carroll Co, MD on Jun 10.

DICKCISSELS were seen and heard in a large number of territories this past
week. Locations included Bower Rd east of Harney, Carroll Co, MD; Sixes
Bridge Rd, Carroll Co, MD; Keysville/Hagerstown Rd intersection, Carroll Co,
MD; Bollinger School Rd south of Rt 140, Frederick Co, MD; Sixes Bridge Rd
east of Grimes Rd, Frederick Co, MD; Creamery Rd north of Keysville Rd,
Frederick Co, MD; Chewsville Rd, Washington Co, MD; Sassafras-Coldwell Rd
east of Golts-Coldwell Rd, Kent Co, MD; Stilltown Rd and Felton School Rd,
Queen Anne's Co, MD; near Church Hill, Queen Anne's Co, MD; White Marsh
Cemetery, Trappe, Talbot Co, MD; Copperville, Talbot Co, MD; Egypt Rd,
Dorchester Co, MD; Turner Rd, Calvert Co, MD; Knife Box Rd west of Baker Rd,
Caroline Co, MD; Long Neck Rd, St Mary's Co, MD; Lucketts, Loudoun Co, VA;
north of Winchester, Frederick Co, VA; and Livick Rd, Augusta Co, VA.
