Hi all,

First, I'd like to thank Clive H.  for posting on the Dickcissel, and other species in the 'rural' part of Montgomery County which is disappearing quickly. Went out along Westerly Rd, and Edwards Ferry Rds, W.Offutt.  Cruising home I stopped by Hughes Hollow Impoundments to see what was about. Many Green-backed Herons flying about, and fledged young. No other waterfowl I could see, except for one domestic Mallard type and one Wood Duck. A Prothonotary Warbler put on quite a show at the parking lot, flying and singing loudly. Saw a Yellow-billed Cuckoo taking food to nest.

One Great Blue Heron in the back of large impoundment near Hunting Quarter Road seemed very ill. One of it's eyes was injured, and it moved very sluggish. An angry Red winged Blackbird perched on it's back and ripped feathers out!  A healthy heron would not have tolerated this.
