Hi everybody,

Today we were out on Poplar Island, and we had some interesting birds.
Here's a partial list from our work day.

RED-THROATED LOON 1 winter plumaged bird
HORNED GREBE      1 breeding plumaged bird
Double-crested Cormorant 2,000+
Great Blue Heron ~8
Snowy Egret  ~18
Canada Goose ~50
Mallard  ~750
SURF SCOTER  1 ad. male
BLACK SCOTER 1 ad. male
LONG-TAILED DUCK 1 ad. male
Osprey ~15
Bald Eagle  3, 2 adults & 1 immature
Killdeer ~12
AMERICAN AVOCET 2
Black-necked Stilt 4 adults, plus 2 young
Willet ~18
RED KNOT 4 (variable plumages)
Semipalmated Sandpiper ~60
BONAPARTE'S GULL 1 ad. winter plumaged bird
Herring Gull ~200
Great black-backed Gull ~35
Common Tern ~200
Least Tern ~250
SHORT-EARED OWL  1 bird flushed again near where we had 1 last week.
Eastern Kingbird 1
Crow sp. 3
Tree Swallow ~18
Barn Swallow ~25
Red-winged Blackbird ~50

The most interesting thing was yesterday, [6/14], the US Fish & Wildlife staff (Ches. Bay Field Office) had FOUR Short-eared Owls!  Today we looked for a possible nest where we flushed the bird today, but found nothing.

We also ran into a birding group that was headed up by Sean McCandless. I'm sure Sean will have a more complete list because he spent more time observing and also had a scope.
