Rick, all:

I have been a member of BCI for two years now.  Unfortunately, in
western MD (Garrett County, Allegheny County, Washington County) the
bats are decimated.  In Vermont the Little Brown myotis has been
effectively wiped out - we are talking hundreds of thousands of bats,
gone forever.

I do urge everyone who can (as some of you have pointed out) to
donate/join BCI.  They are doing wonderful work, and they are a strong
lobbying presence.
