Anyone plan to see the roseate tern might want to avoid going today as the maryland state firemen convention is having a parade with over 200 fire trucks and there 'll be traffic diverted. The tern was there this am. Lots of firetrucks headed east right now toward ocean city inlet (closed to traffic) till after 4pm. - Kevin Graff

Hi Everyone,

Dan Haas and I spent a fun afternoon (21 June 2011) birding the open portion of the ORV (=OSV) Zone on Assateague. We already sent news of our most exciting bird of the day--the adult ROSEATE TERN that Dan spotted on Skimmer Island after we left Assateague. Jim Green and Mike Walsh also made it to Skimmer to see the tern, and it was still there when we left around 8 pm--standing on one of the sandbars very close to Skimmer Island itself.

A few highlights from the ORV Zone:

Surf Scoter--1
Wilson's Storm-Petrel--3
Piping Plover--1
Common Nighthawk--1

Have fun,
