As I mention from time to time, Bob-whites are often released by hunters (and
formerly, at least, by DNR itself) in a mis-guided attempt to bolster the
remnant population. The result has been the opposite; the released birds do not
last the season, and by mating with native birds, drag the natives' progeny down
too. So it is we hear sometimes Bob-whites in the most unexpected places - such
as, a few years ago, my own back-yard in Bowie.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Bobwhite?
I forgot to add, I heard a distant Bobwhite on Westerly while admiring the
Dickcissel and other goodies. Are there genuinely wild Bobwhite in that area?
