Just to recap: Jim Stasz informally led several of us on an adventure
through the lower Chesapeake Bay this past Saturday.
As mentioned before in a previous post, WILSON'S STORM PETRELS were
observed in St. Mary's, Dorchester and Somerset Counties!
Other highlights from our day on the glassy bay:
American Oystercatchers and Yellow-crowned Night Herons on Smith Island
Spotted Sandpiper as we were leaving Smith Island
Peregrine Falcon on the Navy's old target ship in the bay (we were
informed that the falcons bred there this year)
Royal, Least, Forster's and Common Terns
Clapper Rail, Boat-tailed Grackles, Willets, Tricolored Herons, Great
Egrets, Seaside Sparrows & Glossy Ibis on Smith Island
Brown Pelicans
Perhaps most impressive though was this raft of WISP that we found on
the way to the island! I estimated approx. 43 birds.
