Hi Everybody:

I spent most of Saturday morning checking most of the flooded fields that held shorebirds earlier in the spring to see if there was any water left in any of them to see if they would be worth checking in several weeks when shorebirds beging returning. Every location I checked was completely dry and full of some sort of vegetation and/or grass.

I spent about 45 minutes driving Chewsville Road. I also had no luck with the Dickcissels that I had seen here earlier in June. They have either moved on or possibly have moved back into the interior of the vast fields near some of the farmhouses that have long driveways leading to them off of Chewsville Road. I did have Grasshopper, Savannah and Vesper Sparrows as well as Eastern Meadowlarks.

My best bird was a single male BOBOLINK sitting on some low vegetation very close to the south side of Chewsville Road opposite a mailbox on the north side with the number 21619 on it. It did not vocalize while I was there. I watched it for about 3 minutes until a passing car from the opposite direction passed by and the Bobolink flew over a small crest in the field and out of sight.
