The regular DC birders basically act as a street gang patrolling their territory constantly looking for intruders hiding in trees, brush and waterways.  If they find an intruder, they will intently watch them and for particularly unlucky intruders, gang members will quickly report the finding to others - resulting in the rest of the gang rapidly converging on the scene. 
 
The Gang is lead by hardened characters like Paul "the Parrot" Pisano, and Wallace "Rock Creek"  Kornack, and gang's senior consigliere eBirder Micheal "The Accountant" Bowen, and delegate to the gang's national cosa nostra using the front name "ABA".   
 
While it is possible to run into this gang anywhere in the DC, PLEASE, PLEASE avoid the heart of their turf:  Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Hains Point, and Rock creek Park (especially during the months of April-May and August - September - periods of highest gang activity).

real birding challenge and look for Dickcissels and Kites in the
District, rather than just driving around it on the Beltway?
