Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from July 18,2011
This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.
The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, July
2011, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.
Note the total numbers of Snowy Egret, Black-necked Stilt, American
Avocet, Western Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, Laughing Gull and Caspian Tern.
Best species include Horned Grebe, Greater Yellowlegs, Red-necked Phalarope,
Sanderling, Stilt Sandpiper, Black Tern and Common Yellowthroat (singing).
