I spent yesterday evening at a volunteer event at the MD Zoo in Druid Hill Park. In and around the park and in the zoo I had the following birds:

Druid Hill Lake:
Great Black-backed Gull 3
RIng-billed Gull 5
Herring Gull 1
Mallard 2
Great Blue Heron 1
Red-winged Blackbird 4
Common Yellowthroat 1

Within Zoo Grounds:
Great-horned Owl 1
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Common Grackle 7
Herring Gull 2
Ring-billed Gull 3
Common Yellowthroat 2
Downy Woodpecker 1
Carolina Wren 2
Ovenbird 1
Carolina Chickadee 4
Tufted Titmouse 2
Baltimore Oriole 1
Red-shouldered Hawk 2

Around the Mansion House:
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Barn Swallow 6
N. Rough-winged Swallow 1
Bank Swallow 1
Chimney Swift 21
American Kestrel 1
Red-shouldered Hawk 1
Green Heron 1
Yellow-crowned Night Heron 3*

* One was a juvenile the other two were adults. They are presumably one of the families from the rookery near the Steif Silver Building, just behind Druid Hill Park. This year there were three nests on the left side and one on the right (when coming from the GreenMount School) I believe... In any case, all of thew were foraging in the Waterfowl Lake by the Mansion House.

Happy Birding,
