Hi All,

I had a free day today and biked down the Potomac and Anacostia rivers.  At the mouth of Hunting Creek - right off the GW Parkway, a bird bonanza was to be had!  I didn't have my scope, but could make out the following:

1 Tundra Swan (feeding close in on a mudflat) took lots of photos:

2-3 Osprey
100s C. Geese
100s Gulls (Laughing, Ring-billed, and possibly others)
25+ Great Blue Herons
10+ Great Egrets
10+ Yellowlegs
?? More shorebirds, but I was scopeless...

Later around 11:30 am along the river in Anacostia Park, I happened upon my first Forster's Terns of the year. 2 Juveniles were perched on a large Channel Marker west of the 11th St. Bridge, and another was on a flooding sandbar East of that same bridge.  All three were being fed by one overworked adult! Unfortunately, I missed the low tide on the Anacostia so no luck with shorebirds.

Highlights:

4 Forster's
75 Laughing Gulls
0 Least Terns

Enjoy the comparatively cool weather!
